kuya chito's takuyaki balls

I'd have to be blind not to notice that Takoyaki Balls are getting really popular among us Filipinos these days.

Takoyaki is a Japanese dumpling, made of batter, diced or whole baby octopus, tempura scraps, pickled ginger, konnyaku and green onions, topped with okonomiyaki sauce, green laver (aonori), mayonnaise and katsuobushi (fish shavings), originating from Osaka. (source:wikipedia)

When i was in SM Sta. Rosa with my cousin Lindymae, I saw this long queue of people at a small red stall.

Being the curious cat that I am I went to see what the fuzz was all about. There I discovered that people are qeueuing up to get a taste of Kuya Chito's Takuyaki Balls. So I got in line and got myself and my cousin one order each to take with us inside the cinema while watching Kung-Fu Panda.

this is how they cook it

Kuya Chito's Takuyaki Balls are made with vegetable fillings drizzled with mayo, topped with chicken, beef or fish flakes and topped with hot and spicy or sweet and sour sauce.

pork, beef and fish flakes

I was so excited to taste it because although I've known what takoyaki is, that was my first time to actually have one. I remember when I was still a kid my Tita Lindy (i miss her so much), Tito Gil and my Lindymae would always buy takoyaki from Samurai after we've done grocery shopping at SM Supermarket. But I've always ordered Siomai from the the next stall instead of getting takoyaki.

When my cousin and I got inside the cinema, I hurriedly open the container and pierced a takoyaki with the small and cute fork that they gave me. When i first bit onto it, my gosh, i super liked it! no, make that loved it! It was freshly cooked and still hot. It was super nice! I couldn't believe that it's made of chopped veggies, it really did taste like it has seafood in it!!! Kuya Chito's Takuyaki Balls are made to suit the Filipino palatte, it's a "filipinized takoyaki" because they say, compared to authentic takoyaki it's sweeter and tangier and it doesn't have octopus in it (but i think the reason why it doesn't have octopus is that they would have to raise the price and it'll be too expensive for something that is sold mostly in food courts).

One serving = 3 balls for 24 pesos.
Trust me, one serving is not enough!
